Your chance to fly to Monaco

Hike and Fly across the Alps with Nelson de Freyman and crew.

Ever wanted to hike and fly along the race route but didn’t feel up to the challenge of actually doing the race? <link http: www.redbullxalps.com athletes profile nelson-de-freyman.html>Nelson de Freyman may have just the thing for you.

The French athlete is organising two trips this spring, following the race route from Salzburg to Monaco. It be fully supported by his race crew with four paragliding instructors and one mountain guide to assist in the air and on the ground.

“It’s for anyone who wants to get a taste of the race,” he tells us. “It will be fully organised and we really want to provide security so even if you’re not a good pilot you can fly tandem and still have the experience.” He says last year’s route is ideal for aspiring hike and fly athletes. “There are many big valleys and places to land – it’s ideal for students.”

The plan is to begin in Salzburg and then fly to the Dachstein, an historic turnpoint in the race. From there they’ll head to Slovenia like 2017 and then on to Aschau Chiemsee. Following the 2017 course they’ll then head south to Lake Garda, stop there for a day to relax or enjoy other sports and then make for the Matterhorn. At that point they’ll decide whether to follow the mountains south on the French or Italian side, ultimately finishing up in Monaco.

“I want to give people the opportunity to discover what the Red Bull X-Alps is,” he says. “It’s possible to do it without being rushed and safely, even if you’re not a great pilot. The dangers in the race come from when you have no time and you fly on the limit. But if you take a step back, it can be possible for everybody to do this kind of track and cross the Alps in 10-12 days.”

The crew will consist of Nelson, mountain guide Nicolas Braud and the pilots Pierre Damiens, Pierre-Henri Benoît-Lizon and Julien Danerie.

There will be another difference with the race, he says. “We don’t plan to hike along the road! We will hike in the mountains but on the road, we will drive for security reasons.”

The two trips will be run May 19-27 and June 16-24 and will cost €2,500 per person, all inclusive. For more details head over to <link https: www.facebook.com>Nelson’s Facebook page.
