Winning the Red Bull X-Alps isn't as simple as just following the straight course line. While that is 1138km, athletes have to skirt around obstacles, take different lines depending on the conditions and time of day, and adapt to changing circumstances. While Christian Maurer (SUI1) still has 486km of the course ahead of him on paper, he has already travelled 1161km. If it were as simple as going in a straight line, he would have already won.
