Lebanese athlete gets the the chop, while leaders head towards Switzerland

Last-placed athlete Rodolphe Akl (LEB) has been eliminated from the Red Bull X-Alps 2019. From now on, the rules state that the athlete at the back will be relegated every 48 hours – adding pressure to the rear of the race.
Akl, who had reached Turnpoint 3 Aschau-Chiemsee, took the call with the bad news this morning. He had been facing an uphill battle as the athlete in 31st place, Dominika Kasieczko (POL), pulled her Night Pass yesterday, allowing her to keep moving after the race paused at 10.30pm. This gave her an unassailable lead over Akl.
Akl said: 'Thank you for the adventure. It was incredible. I've never reached these limits before.`
Meanwhile, nearly 300km further on, the race leaders, Christian Maurer (SUI1) and Maxime Pinot (FRA4), are moving into Switzerland. Bad weather is expected from the west later in the week, but the forecast for today offers hope for some good flying.
Here's the latest weather for the Austrian provinces of Tyrol and Vorarlberg and the Swiss Graubünden, from UBIMET: 'In the early morning hours, remnant clouds and local showers will be present between Davos and Landeck. Clouds are expected to dissipate at first, leading to some sunshine and increasing thermal conditions.’
Cumulus clouds will then build up above the mountains towards noon with a moderate to high risk of some showers and thunderstorms later. There will be good thermal conditions today especially along the southern orientated slopes.
