On a stable day like today, which is hot with blue sky and not a lot of clouds, two things help the pilots. One is being in the high mountains – the thermals work better on the big peaks and faces, away from the influence of the valley winds. The second is time – as the afternoon progresses the temperature rises, and the thermals rise more easily – the flying often gets easier later in the day.
