A formidable line up of race athletes were at the 30th anniversary edition of Red Bull Dolomitenmann, among them Chrigel Maurer, Paul Guschlbauer, Aaron Durogati, Stanislav Mayer, Ferdinand van Schelven and Tobias Grossrubatscher.

The adventure relay race sees individual athletes compete over a variety of disciplines including mountain running, paragliding, mountain biking and white water kayaking in the Lienz Dolomites of Austria.

Rarely a year goes by without Paul Guschlbauer winning the paragliding stage, but this year it was Aaron Durogati who took the individual prize.

He said: “After all the trouble of the Red Bull X-Alps it was nice to win something significant.” He says he was so fired up because his mountain runner was not so fast and he started 20-30 minutes after the others had already taken off.

“All the favourites like Chrigel were already down,” he said. “That made me really angry that I had so many people in front of me so I had to push hard. I overtook about 15 people.”

He adds that his knee gave him no trouble. “It was really bad last week as I did a mountain running competition and I couldn’t walk for two days but my doctor’s really fantastic and I came to the race without any pain, so I had a normal race.”

Due to the unstable weather conditions the start of the paragliding section had to be transferred from the Kuhbodentörl to the Moosalm.

It was a good day for Chrigel Maurer as well. His team placed second overall. “Teamwork in perfection,” he posted on Facebook. He also came second in the individual paragliding, just 22 seconds behind Durogati.

Guschlbauer suffered a disappointing performance, placing 9th overall in the individual paragliding discipline. His team finished 5th overall.

In the amateur categories both Ferdy van Schelven and Stanislav Mayer took part. Mayer was 12th overall in the individual paragliding, finishing just 2m 30s behind Durogati while van Schelven overtook several teams to came 40th, another 2m 15s behind Mayer.

Mayer’s team was second overall in the amateur category and he was delighted with the result.  “We just missed first place but that’s part of the sport and I think everyone on the team was very happy. Maybe next year,” he posted on social.

Also in the lineup was Tobias Grossrubatscher. He finished 17th overall in the individual paragliding in a time of 18m 28s, his team finished 13th overall.

The race was ultimately won by the team Pure Encapsulations in a time of 3h 50m 57s.
