NZL1-facebook-21052019 : Timeline Photos

Flying to turn point 3 in the last #redbullxalps, where we had to land at Aschau, the town dead ahead, the same as this time. Kandersteg mountain is to the right with Chiemsee (lake) behind. After failing to cross the main divide the night before (I'm not sure how other pilots managed to climb so high above cloud base?) I stayed at a mountain hut and the next morning had a scenic flight in the high mountains which started working earlier than the pre-alps where all the other pilots flew - the same course as in 2015 and 2019. Therefore I was able to catch up at this turn point even though I started nearly 40km to the south. Afterwards everyone else hiked west, while I went for the closest patch of grass, soared up the hills in this photo, and slided tailwind south into bigger mountains to get height to cross the Inn valley. This little detour towards Italy (and Reichenspitze of my previous post) is directly on this year's course line. A good laugh at sharemyjoys.wordpress.com/2017/08/05/rbx17-episode-3-aschau/
