Mitch Riley (USA3) was eliminated at 6am this morning. He was the athlete in last place. Mitch's departure follows a hard-fought battle at the back. Yesterday, Tom de Dorlodot (BEL), Mitch Riley (USA3) and Jesse Williams (USA2) were pursuing Evgenii Griaznov (RUS), who had a narrow lead.

The three pursuers, however, pulled Ledlenser Night Passes and it looked like the Russian was doomed. Amazingly, however, it was not to be. Following an early run, Evgenii regained the lost ground and Mitch fell into last – by just 300m.

'I really wanted to go further, but it's been a great race and I've learned a lot,' said Mitch, who covered 167.1km yesterday and a further 5.3 this morning.Evgenii, meanwhile, is delighted to be heading onto Turnpoint 5, Monte Baldo.

He travelled 130.6km yesterday, and 12.7km today.
