Chrigel Maurer (SUI1) is not moving – he is stuck soaring that mountain side, waiting for the morning thermals to really start. This is not an unusual situation for an athlete to be in while flying early. The saying is get in the air early, stay up, and then when the thermals do start to work you are in the best place to take advantage of them. Patrick von Känel meanwhile has landed and is now facing a hike – most likely to where Maurer is now. Worth noting is that Maurer is exactly on course - his soaring track criss-crosses the line of the Red Bull X-Alps course-line exactly. He is in the best place he can be.
