Chrigel Maurer (SUI1) has pulled ahead by 20km. The thunderstorm on the Kleinerpass, which saw ITA1, FRA1 and FRA2 sheltering from heavy rain, allowed Maurer to push on, to keep moving while the others had to pause. Even an hour waiting for the weather to clear means 4-5km on the ground for the athlete ahead if they are hiking.
