HOW FAST CAN YOU RUN 50KM?

Christian Maurer (SUI1) is now 50km from the Finish – so how quickly could he cover it? The fastest 50km on a road was run by South African ultrarunner Thompson Magawana in 2:43:38. There's no hope, however, of Chrigel doing that. He's carrying 7.5kg of kit, is fast but not that fast, and will actually have to travel much further if he sticks to the tarmac. The region's roads are notoriously winding, meaning that the actual distance he'll have to cover on foot is likely closer to 80km. At a fair jog of 8kmh, that's another ten hours.
