Good Conditions for the Athletes in the Alps

Some may have reached the final Turnpoint, but for others the race against the clock has begun. Fortunately the conditions are looking good!

While the race leaders are already enjoying their downtime on the Mediterranean coast, and Paul Guschlbauer (AUT1) is pounding out the kilometres on the pavement, many of the athletes behind are enjoying good flying conditions this afternoon.

Conditions have seen the athletes flying at up to 3,500m, with Nick Neynens (NZL) flying into Turnpoint 6, the Matterhorn.

Sebastian Huber (GER1) has already flown 100km today. From the Matterhorn turnpoint he took a westerly line out towards the French Alps. When conditions are good, this offers the best way to make fast progress through the high peaks. Pal Takats (HUN) has chosen to fly this line too.

Further back, fan favourite Toma Coconea is pushing west through Italy, with 85km to the Matterhorn. That’s possible if today stays flyable all day.

Behind him, Richard Brezina (CAN) has been having a great day and has covered 80km in the air. Meanwhile, Jesse Williams (USA2) flew across Lake Garda and dropped onto the western slopes of Monte Baldo before soaring almost up to its summit. After landing 200m below, he hiked up to tag Turnpoint 5 shortly before 3pm.

The race may be in its final day, but the athletes still out in the Alps are enjoying yeh conditions and the mountains in all their glory.
