After more than 24 hours of racing, leaders Christian Maurer (SUI1), Paul Gushlbauer (AUT1) and Maxime Pinot (FRA4) are still within just metres of one another. Given the number of variables there are in a race such as this, their proximity may seem incredible. But there are clear advantages to sticking together at this point. By flying in a gaggle, they can help each other to mark lift, and ensure they get the longest flight possible. Even in the most competitive environment, cooperation is often key.
