The leading pack of four athletes reached Turnpoint 3, Aschau - Chiemsee just before 2pm local time today.

Chrigel Maurer (SUI1) and Maxime Pinot (FRA4) were first, almost in a dead heat. They were followed closely by Paul Guschlbauer (AUT1) and Benoit Outters (FRA1).

The athletes had taken advantage of good flying conditions to race downwind at speeds of up to 70km/h to reach the turnpoint in excellent time.

They were so fast that they beat their own support crew. Maurer’s team reported: “He got there about 20 minutes before us. We are still on the way – we’re still 10 minutes from the Turnpoint!”

For the leaders, the race is now on to head south, across the main spine of the Alps towards Kronplatz in Italy. The rest of the pack meanwhile will continue to converge on Turnpoint 3, Aschau - Chiemsee.
