All about hiking

Everyone is hiking. Hiking well in this race is all about speed. But hiking is not running or jogging – it uses different muscles. Athletes train to hike for the Red Bull X-Alps: a daily 30km hike is normal for athletes. A look at the average hiking speeds of the top five athletes shows that Maxime Pinot (FRA1) has had the highest average hiking speed so far.
SUI1: 4.78km/h
SUI1: 4.29km/h
ITA1: 4.4km/h
FRA1: 4.96km/h
FRA2: 4.69km/h
At the back, Nick Neynens (NZL1) has a bruised ankle and has averaged 3.59km/h over the last four days. Watch Maurer (SUI1) hiking in the rain.
