Philipp Haag (GER3) retires

Philipp has reluctantly decided to withdraw after a bad landing left him with a back injury. Although he’s making a good recovery, he won’t be fit enough to take to the start line. We wish him a speedy recovery. Philipp’s decision to pull out follows that of Tom de Dorlodot (BEL1), who announced his withdrawal a couple of months ago. However, the veteran athlete, who has taken part in every edition since 2007, will be in Kitzbühel to follow the race and will contribute to our race coverage throughout. This now means there will be 33 athletes on the start line.

Prologue celebrates 10 years

This edition marks the 10-year anniversary of the first ever Prologue. First introduced in 2015 the Prologue is a one-day hike and fly battle starting at 11am on June 12. It’s a fast and furious display of mountain running and flying around Kitzbühel - Kirchberg – and a great opportunity to see the athletes in action or via the 3D Live Tracking. Check out the route here.

Live broadcasts

Former athlete Gavin McClurg, who came third in the original 2015 Prologue, is today the co-host of the daily YouTube live show broadcast at 9pm from June 15 - June 27. The Prologue will also be broadcast live on June 12 from 10.50am on YouTube.

How to follow the race

The start at Kirchenplatz in Kitzbühel and Turnpoint 1 Hahnenkamm are the best places to watch the action in person when the main race starts at 11.30am on June 15. Spectators can then follow all the action via 3D Live Tracking on redbullxalps.com. It offers a truly unique and immersive 3D experience which lets the audience experience the viewpoint of athletes as they fly through the mountains. A guide to following the race can also be found on our Instagram channel.

Trophies

This year the winner trophies have been designed by the Mexican artist Juan Corral, a well-known figure in the free flying community. His handmade trophies, which are unique and designed with sustainable materials, are highly sought after and are a worthy reward for athletes standing on the podium of the world’s toughest adventure race.
