The 33 athletes participating in this year's Red Bull X-Alps 2025 have begun to arrive in Kitzbühel-Kirchberg in preparation for the world’s toughest adventure race. They began arriving at their dedicated athlete camp over the weekend to start the registration process.
For athletes, many things need to be checked before the race starts. First, they need to receive their race kit, including the following gear, which is also available through the official gear store:
- Official Salewa race clothing
- Kits from Aprèsport and Dynamic Tape to keep the athletes in the best possible shape
- Naviter-provided flying instruments for 3D Live Tracking – Omni for the athlete, Oudie for the supporter
- InReach Mini 2 from Garmin for emergency communications
- Lupine headlamp
- Plenty of Red Bull to stay awake during the long race
- All necessary information and other items, such as stickers for the race vehicles, SIM cards, wristbands, and insurance
Athletes also need to have their equipment checked for safety and ensure that all necessary branding is in the correct places on their gliders and harnesses. Safety goes first! Some athletes might be tempted, for example, to remove one of the two lanyards and karabiners from a via ferrata kit to make it lighter. This is not allowed. Race check-in also includes a medical checkup to ensure that every athlete is safe to participate in the race.
