The duel between James Elliott (CAN) and Logan Walters (USA1) became a “truel” on Tuesday evening as Elisabeth Egger (AUT4) managed to catch up with the North Americans. Eli tagged Turnpoints 13 and 14 about an hour and a half after them and admitted she hadn’t realized she only has one Turnpoint left in the race as she hadn’t been thinking that far ahead.
Eli Egger (AUT4) is the lightest athlete in the 2023 Red Bull X-Alps. This is why she flies with a 7kg weight vest and an extra 8kg water ballast. Click below to find out why being lighter in the air isn’t the advantage you’d think
If there is one thing the Red Bull X-Alps is all about – it’s adapting. While fitness is essential for making it to goal, in order to keep going, athletes must also be able to constantly adapt and change their mindset. Even if an athlete races a route hundreds of times, conditions will always be different, and they must adapt – in both strategy, navigation, and approach.
Red Bull X-Alps is the world’s toughest adventure race. It’s difficult to think of another race that demands such high level of both physical and mental fitness of body and mind.
