Budding athletes have until September 30 to apply for the Red Bull X-Alps 2011

There is just one month remaining for potential participants to apply to the Red Bull X-Alps 2011, the 864km adventure race where athletes must hike or paraglide from Salzburg to Monaco in the quickest time possible.

Applications close on September 30 and have been coming in thick and fast. Organiser, and head of the Race Selection Committee, Hannes Arch says that athletes who are up for the ultimate challenge should register soon on the official website,

Two-time Red Bull X-Alps participant will introduce Red Bull X-Alps film at top Czech Mountaineering Film Festival

Czech athlete Jan Skrabalek will introduce the Red Bull X-Alps film at the prestigious International Mountaineering Film Festival in Teplice nad Metují at 1800 on Thursday August 27.

The film is repeated the next day at 1200 on August 28. This is the 27th edition of the festival which is organised by the town of Teplice nad Metuji in the North East of the Czech Republic and will take place on August 27-30, 2010.

We caught up with team SUI3's supporter Thomas Theurillat and asked him for his thoughts on the team's 2009 Red Bull X-Alps victory and what it takes to be a supporter.

Behind every great Red Bull X-Alps athlete, there is a great supporter, as the saying (sort of) goes. It's no secret that Chrigel Maurer's victory in the 2009 Red Bull X-Alps was the result of great teamwork between the Swiss flying ace and his supporter Thomas Theurillat.

Red Bull X-Alps 2011 begins search for athletes

Applications for the 2011 Red Bull X-Alps, the world’s most spectacular adventure race, have opened and budding athletes have until September 30, 2010 to register their intent to participate.

The Red Bull X-Alps 2011 will be the fifth edition of the extremely popular adventure race where athletes must hike or paraglide their way across the Alps from Salzburg in Austria to the Monaco on the Mediterranean coast.

More turnpoints, longer course

Organiser Hannes Arch and his team have devised a new route with eight turnpoints in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France, which is anticipated to make things much harder for the athletes.

After 2009's successful start, things will kick off in the centre of Salzburg, Austria. The Gaisberg returns as turnpoint 1, but then the athletes must make their way to the Dachstein, scene of the 2003, 05 and 07 start.
