What is your greatest sporting success?
My four participations in the Red Bull X-Alps, on which I adjust my sportive plans since 2003.
When and why did you begin paragliding?
I started paragliding in 1993 through a friend.
I was fascinated and after a week of practicing starts and landings in the flying school we continued with a book as autodidacts.
What is your mountaineering and big mountain experience?
During my Red Bull X-Alps participations, I crossed many big mountains.
What does your typical training week consist of?
Endurance training as a preparation for Red Bull X-Alps, mainly at the gym during the winter. In spring I will try to get more airtime.
What are your best and worst sporting memories?
Luckily, there are many good and just a few bad memories. However, I try to filter the positive out of every event.
When and how did you first hear about the Red Bull X-Alps?
In 2003, coincidentally on the internet.
Have you competed in the Red Bull X-Alps before and if so, when?
2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009
Why does the Red Bull X-Alps interest you?
Because I still have a dream I want to fulfill.
What will be your strategy during the race?
To hopefully finally finish without many wrong decisions.
On average, over a third of the Red Bull X-Alps participants fail to finish the event. Why do you think you will make it?
So far I always managed to stay in the race to the end. I will again prepare well, especially physically and hope to make it to the end without injuries once again.
What excites you most about the event?
The personal challenge to master the trip.
What scares you the most about the event?
I always hope that none of the participants has a bad accident. This would be really awful!
How long have you known your assistant?
For 20 years. He lives only two streets away from me. We spend a lot of time together and go flying almost every weekend. Besides that we took part in a couple of snowboard contests together.
Why will he/ she make a good assistant?
Robert takes sports very serious and always gives his best to be successful. He knows me and my strengths and weaknesses very well. We are neighbors, which lets us use every free minute for preparations for the Red Bull X-Alps. The only thing we have to work on are his culinary skills.
